“We celebrate stand ups y’all celebrate rats!”
-Scrooge Owens “Dance Floor”

The first Impression I had when listening to Scrooge Owens rap was “Oh he’s about to restore the feeling of that real authentic hip hop!” The hard hitting straight to the point gangsta lyricism is reminiscent of 50 Cent fused with DMX. Even with those great comparisons, Scrooge is still cruising in a lane of his own.

While listening to the music, It’s easy to pick up the fact that Scrooge Owen’s hasn’t had the easiest path in life to get to where he’s at. After being incarcerated for a while, and even facing the death penalty at one point, he didn’t allow that to stop his grind at all! After releasing “The Old Me” in 2019, he followed in 2021 with “Same Old Me” which is what we came here to talk about so let's get to it!
The overall feel of the project is raw, grimey, and somehow at the same time you can definitely still 2-Step in the club to it. Track 2 “Crazy” is a perfect example of this. A couple other stand outs on the projects and my personal favorites include “The Run Down”, and “Thugs Prayer” where he gets the most vulnerable and gives a brief look into his soul. The passion in his voice is clear and distinct. The vibe was consistent throughout the project and all the beats were attention grabbing. The lyrics are fierce and straight to the point. Although I enjoyed this project a lot, I’d love to hear Scrooge do some joints for the ladies, or maybe some story telling tracks. I’m sure there’s more music of his I can dive into so I'll have to do more research. However as it pertains to the “Same Old Me'' Album, it's a very solid effort proving that he is here to stay! Make sure to follow this amazing talent on IG Instagram @scroogeowens Scrooge Owens is definitely Rap Nerd approved and when he takes off like a rocket, don’t say the Rap Nerd didn’t tell you so!
