# About Derek "D-Sick" Moore

Hip hop isn't just something I listen to—it's something I've lived.

My name is Derek "D-Sick" Moore, founder of Rap Nerd Media, Program Director of Rap Nerd Radio, host of Rap Nerd Reviews, journalist, music curator, producer, and lifelong student of hip hop culture.

I've been actively involved in the music industry since 2008, wearing many hats throughout my journey. I started as a rapper and lyricist before expanding into music production, audio engineering, journalism, artist development, radio programming, content creation, and media coverage. That experience gives me a unique perspective that goes far beyond simply reviewing songs.

Today, I serve as the founder and editor behind Rap Nerd, a growing hip hop media platform dedicated to discovering, documenting, and promoting independent artists from around the world.

## Why Artists Respect My Opinion

Every year I listen to and evaluate hundreds of songs, albums, EPs, and music videos submitted by artists from every corner of the globe. Through Rap Nerd Reviews, Groover, Auxchord, MusoSoup, One Submit, and other industry platforms, I've built a reputation for providing honest, constructive, and actionable feedback.

My goal has never been to tear artists down.

My goal is to help artists grow.

Whether I'm reviewing a major release or an underground project recorded in a home studio, I approach every submission with the same question:

"Does this contribute something meaningful to hip hop culture?"

## More Than a Reviewer

Unlike many music reviewers, I understand the creative process from the artist's side.

I have spent years writing lyrics, producing beats, recording vocals, mixing sessions, performing live, and studying the craft of hip hop. As a producer operating under the name DSickMusic, I continue to create music while remaining deeply connected to the culture I cover.

That firsthand experience allows me to evaluate music from multiple perspectives:

* Songwriting
* Lyricism
* Flow and cadence
* Beat selection
* Production quality
* Artist branding
* Audience appeal
* Long-term career potential

## Rap Nerd Radio

I founded Rap Nerd Radio to provide independent artists with something that has become increasingly rare in today's music industry: genuine exposure.

Rap Nerd Radio broadcasts independent hip hop 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, giving talented artists an opportunity to reach new listeners worldwide.

The station has featured artists from across the United States and internationally, helping introduce audiences to some of the most promising voices in underground hip hop.

## Journalism & Media

As a journalism graduate and media professional, I believe hip hop deserves thoughtful coverage that goes beyond clickbait and trends.

Through interviews, reviews, articles, podcasts, live broadcasts, and event coverage, my mission is to document the people, stories, and movements that keep hip hop culture alive.

I've interviewed independent artists, producers, entrepreneurs, and respected voices within hip hop, including university professors and cultural scholars who are helping preserve and advance the culture.

## My Mission

The mission of Rap Nerd is simple:

To explore hip hop worldwide through journalism, discovering and spotlighting independent artists who strengthen the culture.

I believe great music exists far beyond major labels and streaming playlists. Some of the most talented artists in the world are creating incredible work with little recognition.

My job is to help change that.

Whether you're an artist seeking exposure, a producer looking for honest feedback, or a fan searching for your next favorite rapper, welcome to Rap Nerd.

This is where real hip hop lives.
