I had the pleasure of diving into “Therapy Session,” a six-track project by Benny from the Sandlot and Square2God. This album is a powerful journey that blends emotional beats with introspective lyrics I’m excited to share my thoughts on each track from the EP.

Starting with Track 1, “Lost Souls,” I was struck by its vulnerability. The contrast between the aggressive rap delivery and the chill, introspective beat set a strong tone. Benny’s line, “Up in age, but this is my new prime / When life gave me lemons, shit, I made moonshine,” and Square2God’s line, “Them caskets get a whole lot heavier after ya ass done carried a few,” were standout moments that highlighted the poetic depth of the project

Track 2, “One-Eyed King,” continued with strong themes. I was personally drawn to the length of the track for spiritual reasons (3:33), but beyond that, the chorus about the one-eyed king leading the blind stood out. It touched on knowing your power and being cautious with those around you, which gave it an emotional and relatable feel.

In Track 3, “Make A Way” featuring Mic Hoffa, the emotional tone continued. I really connected with the theme that time doesn’t heal all wounds, and the affirmations in the first verse were motivational. The lines about not falling victim to struggle or pride were really uplifting.

Track 4, “Biggest of Dreams,” kept the emotional feeling strong. Square2God’s line, “Live lucid dreams on the outside, my struggle is within,” and Benny’s line about not being ready to see the other side yet really showcased the depth of their storytelling.

Track 5, “Not the Only One,” ended up being my favorite beat on the project. The beat sounded like it was crying! The track talks about weathering storms and dealing with snakes in your crew. I found Benny’s line, “Screaming on the inside, but I never shout,” to be especially deep and powerful.

Finally, Track 6, “Crossroads,” was a perfect closer. It tied back to the first track and brought the whole project full circle. The hopeful lines from Benny and Square2God, and the triumphant beat, made it feel like the end of a meaningful therapy session. I also appreciated the shout-out to Virginia at the end, which was a nice personal touch.

Overall, “Therapy Session” is a cohesive and deeply emotional project. Benny from the Sandlot and Square2God have delivered a stellar album, and I’m looking forward to hearing more from them. #RapNerdApproved
